Turin airport to city centre: train, bus and taxi from Caselle (TRN)

Turin Caselle airport (TRN, named after Sandro Pertini) lies about 16 km north of the centre: it is close, and that changes everything compared with Malpensa. From the terminal you reach the city by SFM A train on the Torino–Ceres line from the Torino Aeroporto station, by airport bus to Porta Susa and Porta Nuova, or by fixed-fare taxi; the pre-booked private transfer is the only one of the four that goes through this site's partners.

The train is the most useful option: the line, reconnected to the Passante rail link, reaches Porta Susa in about 30 minutes with a train every half hour during the day, and from there metro line 1 takes five minutes to Porta Nuova. The Arriva/SADEM bus takes 45–60 minutes depending on traffic on Corso Grosseto, but stops right outside Porta Nuova, a short walk from Via Roma. Check evening services on Trenitalia before you fly.

Prices from Caselle to the centre: Turin airport bus, train, taxi and private transfer

  • SFM A train airport–Porta Susa: €3–4*, about 30 minutes, the cheapest choice if you sleep near Porta Susa or a metro stop.
  • Airport bus to Porta Susa and Porta Nuova: €7–9*, 45–60 minutes, luggage in the hold, handy for hotels on Via Roma and in the Quadrilatero.
  • Fixed-fare taxi airport–centre: €30–35* per car depending on the time band; ask for the fixed fare before you get in.
  • Private transfer: €45–70* per vehicle for up to 3–4 people, driver with a name board in arrivals, waiting time included if the flight is late.

For one person in daylight the train and bus win outright. From three people up, a taxi costs about the same per head as the bus and drops you at the hotel; a private transfer makes sense after midnight, with pushchairs or skis bound for Sestriere and Bardonecchia, and for anyone who wants a fixed price. For bus and train the operator's fare is what counts.

Malpensa to Turin: direct coach, train via Milano Centrale or private transfer

Milan Malpensa (MXP) is about 130 km from Turin, an hour and three quarters on the A4 motorway without traffic. Many visitors land there because Caselle mostly serves European and low-cost routes while intercontinental flights arrive at Malpensa. The direct Arriva/SADEM coach leaves from Terminals 1 and 2, takes about two hours and stops beside Porta Nuova and then at Porta Susa for €20–25*: the simplest choice with luggage.

By train you go via Milano Centrale: Malpensa Express (about 50 minutes), then a Frecciarossa or Italo to Porta Susa in an hour, 2.5–3 hours in all with the change. A private Malpensa–Turin transfer costs €180–260* per vehicle and only pays off for three or four people or at night. From Bergamo (BGY) there is no fixed link: bus to Milan, then train. The rest of the leg is covered on our page on getting from Milan to Turin.

Porta Nuova, Porta Susa or Lingotto: which Turin station suits you

Torino Porta Nuova station is the historic terminus on Piazza Carlo Felice at the start of Via Roma: step outside and you are already in the centre, with metro line 1 and arcades leading in ten minutes to Piazza San Carlo and Piazza Castello. Frecciarossa, Italo and most regional trains stop here: it is the right station for central hotels. Porta Susa, the underground through station on Corso Inghilterra, takes the airport train and every SFM line, two metro stops from Porta Nuova.

Lingotto, to the south, serves the former Fiat factory with its rooftop test track, Eataly and the Pinacoteca Agnelli: useful only if your hotel is there. Left luggage is at Porta Nuova, charged by the hour or day; in the centre there are app-booked storage points in partner shops. If your room is not ready, board the hop-on hop-off bus from Piazza Castello or follow our one-day itinerary.

Night flights, children and skis: what to book before flying to Turin

At night the choice narrows. The airport bus runs until late evening, the train thins out after 9 pm and on Sundays: check the last departure before booking a flight that lands after 11 pm. The fixed-fare taxi rank works around the clock, but after a delayed evening flight the queue at Caselle grows; a private transfer with flight tracking is the only option where a car waits for you regardless, and with children it is the one we recommend.

Caselle is the gateway to Sestriere, Bardonecchia and the Via Lattea ski area: with skis or pushchairs ask for a larger vehicle and request child seats in advance, because not every supplier includes them. If you are heading on to the Ligurian coast, see our page on beach transfers; if you are staying in Piedmont, the day trips from Turin.

Platforms, prices and how we choose Turin airport transfers

For private transfers we put GetYourGuide first: it groups Turin suppliers under "Airport transfers Turin" from €40*, usually with free cancellation up to 24 hours before, and lists the Malpensa–Turin ride as a separate product. The airport bus appears on Tiqets as "Airport bus transfer" from €5*: check at checkout that it is the Caselle–Turin line. Train and taxi go through no partner.

Starred prices are bands observed on partner catalogues and checked regularly; the checkout price prevails. We are not the airport's site nor a transport operator: if a timetable or fare changes, we update it at the next check. Once in town, the Torino+Piemonte Card covers museums but not GTT public transport, which you pay for with city tickets.

FAQ

What is the cheapest way from Turin airport to the city centre?

The train on the Torino–Ceres line (SFM A) from the airport's own station: €3–4* with an integrated ticket, about 30 minutes to Torino Porta Susa, every half hour during the day. From Porta Susa, metro line 1 takes five minutes to Porta Nuova. If your hotel is on Via Roma or in the Quadrilatero, the airport bus (€7–9*) drops you closer and is worth the extra few euro.

How long does it take from Caselle to Turin city centre?

About 30 minutes by train to Porta Susa; 45–60 minutes by airport bus depending on traffic on Corso Grosseto and the ring road; 25–35 minutes by taxi or private transfer outside rush hour, longer on weekday mornings and late afternoons. Always add 15–20 minutes to clear the terminal and find the stop or your driver.

How much is a taxi from Turin airport to the centre?

Turin has a fixed airport–centre taxi fare, roughly €30–35* per car depending on the time band, with night and holiday supplements; the tariff card is displayed in the cab and you should ask for the fixed fare before setting off. For a family of four the taxi costs about the same per head as the bus and stops at the hotel door; a pre-booked private transfer costs a little more but locks the price and includes waiting time if the flight is late.

Is there a train from Turin airport to the city?

Yes. The Torino Aeroporto station is linked to the terminal and SFM A trains (Torino–Ceres line) run through the Passante rail link to Torino Porta Susa; some services continue towards Lingotto, so check Trenitalia. The train does not stop at Porta Nuova: change at Porta Susa for the metro. Frequencies drop in the evening and on Sundays, so check the last departure if you land late.

How do I get from Malpensa airport to Turin?

The direct Arriva/SADEM coach leaves from Malpensa Terminals 1 and 2, takes about two hours and stops at Porta Susa and Porta Nuova for €20–25*. By train you go via Milano Centrale: Malpensa Express then a Frecciarossa or Italo to Porta Susa, 2.5–3 hours in all. A private transfer costs €180–260* per vehicle and only makes sense for three or four people or a night arrival. Our page on getting from Milan to Turin has the details.

Which station is central in Turin, Porta Nuova or Porta Susa?

Torino Porta Nuova is the historic central terminus: it opens onto Piazza Carlo Felice at the start of Via Roma, with metro line 1 and arcades leading to Piazza San Carlo and Piazza Castello. Porta Susa, on Corso Inghilterra, is the through station for high-speed trains and the airport train, two metro stops from Porta Nuova. Lingotto serves the south of the city and only suits hotels in that area.

My flight lands at Caselle after midnight: how do I get into town?

After the last bus and train you have the fixed-fare taxi rank outside arrivals (24 hours) and a pre-booked private transfer, which tracks your flight and waits with a name board even if you are late. With children, skis or more than two suitcases we recommend the transfer: €45–70* per vehicle, and it spares you the taxi queue that builds up after the evening low-cost arrivals.

Where can I leave luggage in Turin when I arrive?

Torino Porta Nuova has a left-luggage counter in the station, charged by the hour or day, with opening times worth checking in advance; around Porta Susa and the centre there are app-booked storage points in partner shops. Drop the bags and use the hours before check-in for the hop-on hop-off bus from Piazza Castello or a first walk under the arcades of Via Roma.
