Who actually runs tours in Turin

Turin’s tour market is smaller than Rome’s or Florence’s and revolves around a handful of recognisable names. Somewhere Tours & Events is the best-known local agency: it invented the Torino Magica® format in the 1990s, runs Torino Sotterranea and a series of themed walks, and fills the weekend evening calendar. I Eat Food Tours covers the food segment with small-group walks led by English-speaking guides. Turin With Me is a licensed guide who works on private bookings only. City Sightseeing Torino operates the red hop-on hop-off bus on two lines from Piazza Castello.

Alongside them work the official tourist office, Turismo Torino e Provincia, the in-house guides of the big museums and dozens of guides licensed by the Piedmont Region who sell through GetYourGuide, ToursByLocals or word of mouth. The big platforms guide nothing: they are shop windows. That is why this site always separates who runs a tour from who sells it, and in each operator review we say which of the two channels makes more sense for each product.

Turin tour companies: the three reviews we have written

We have written a full review of the three operators you will meet most often when searching for tours in the city. Somewhere Tours: strengths are historical research, staging and a dense calendar; limits are large groups on autumn Saturdays and departures almost only in Italian. Its Torino Magica® scores 4.6★ from more than 1,600 reviews on GetYourGuide from €35*, and the underground tour is on Tiqets from €39*.

I Eat Food Tours: about three hours through the Quadrilatero, Porta Palazzo or San Salvario depending on the date, tastings that replace a meal, €80–110* on its own site and comparable products from €45* in GetYourGuide’s food tour category. Turin With Me: tailor-made private tours, indicatively €150–250* per group for 2–3 hours, ideal for families and special interests, with no exclusive museum access.

  • You want the most-reviewed tour: Somewhere, via GetYourGuide.
  • You want to eat your way through the centre in English: I Eat, direct or via GetYourGuide.
  • You want your own timing and pace: Turin With Me or a private tour from €52* per person.

Tourist office, museum guides and free tours

Turismo Torino e Provincia is the public tourism body: info points in Piazza Castello and at Porta Nuova, guided walks of the centre at weekends, the Torino + Piemonte Card (from €29* on Tiqets, the only partner platform that sells it) and the Venaria Express, the shuttle linking Piazza Castello to the Reggia. It is the right channel for the Card and for an institutional walk in Italian; for themes such as esotericism or food it effectively points you to the private agencies.

The main museums have their own guides. The Museo Egizio sells roughly one-hour visits with in-house Egyptologists (per-group fee to check on the official site); the Musei Reali and the National Cinema Museum at the Mole run similar programmes, mostly at weekends. External guides on GetYourGuide add skip-the-line entry and groups of 15: the Egyptian Museum in a small group from €68* with 4.8★, the Royal Palace from €56* with 4.9★. Free tours on GuruWalk usually leave from Piazza Castello and live on tips (€10–15* each): good for orientation, not for depth.

Beyond the city: Langhe, vermouth and truffles

Many ‘Turin tour operators’ actually sell trips into Piedmont. For wine, the Consorzio Turistico Langhe Monferrato Roero publishes the official lists of wineries open to visitors and of local guides, while on GetYourGuide a full day in the Langhe starts from €90* and a tasting between Asti and Turin from €39* with 4.7★. The Alba White Truffle Fair runs from October to early December: in those weeks truffle hunting with tasting (from €80*) needs booking well ahead.

Two food addresses also act as operators: Casa Martini in Pessione di Chieri, the vermouth museum with visits and masterclasses by reservation, and Eataly Lingotto, the first Eataly in the world, with classes and tastings. Neither is a tour agency: you arrange transport from Turin yourself or find it in a food and wine package on GetYourGuide.

Platforms: GetYourGuide, Tiqets, Headout and the rest

Platforms do not run tours, but they decide how you book. GetYourGuide has the widest Turin catalogue, more than 25 products across walking tours, the Egyptian Museum, the Langhe, Venaria, e-bikes and chocolate, with free cancellation up to 24 hours and a language-filtered calendar: it is our first choice for experiences. Tiqets is the only one selling the Torino + Piemonte Card and is strong on museums and the underground; Headout is our fallback, mainly for the Egyptian Museum and Royal Palace combos.

Viator (Tripadvisor), Civitatis and Musement mostly list the same operators: Torino Magica® appears on Viator with hundreds of reviews, Civitatis serves Spanish-speaking travellers, Musement the Italian market. We mention them because you will meet them in search results, but we do not link them: three platforms are enough to compare, and multiplying channels confuses more than it helps. The price that counts is always the one at checkout.

How we review tour operators and guides

Every review follows the same criteria. Specialism: what the operator genuinely does well, and what it sells just to round out the catalogue. Group size: in Turin a Saturday evening walk can exceed 25 people, while a food tour stays under 12. Languages actually scheduled, not merely listed. Channel: direct or platform, with real differences in cancellation and support. Terms: refund policy, weather, timings.

We do not attend every departure and we receive no payment from operators. We earn a commission if you book through partner links, which does not change your price and does not influence the verdict. Scores quoted are the public ones on partner catalogues, checked regularly; asterisked prices are observed bands, and the checkout price prevails. If something has changed, write to info@tours.torino.it.

FAQ

Who are the best tour operators in Turin?

It depends on what you want. For the evening esoteric walk the reference is Somewhere Tours, creators of Torino Magica® and Torino Sotterranea, with hundreds of reviews on GetYourGuide and Viator. For food, I Eat Food Tours runs small groups with English-speaking guides. For a private guide, Turin With Me or the licensed guides on ToursByLocals. For an overview from a bus, City Sightseeing Torino. Our reviews explain the strengths and limits of each.

Should I book direct with the company or through GetYourGuide?

The price is almost always identical, because the operator sets the fare and the platform keeps a commission. GetYourGuide adds free cancellation up to 24 hours, a calendar filtered by language and payment in your currency. Direct booking helps for special requests: large groups, dietary needs, dates outside the published calendar. Check that title, duration and meeting point match before comparing.

Where can I read reviews of Turin tour guides?

The largest public review pools are on GetYourGuide (Torino Magica® has more than 1,600 ratings), Viator and Google. For private guides, the profile on ToursByLocals or the guide’s own site matters most. We never invent scores: we only quote those visible on partner catalogues and check them regularly. Always read the last few months of reviews rather than the historical average.

What does the tourist office, Turismo Torino e Provincia, offer?

It is the official body: it runs the info points in Piazza Castello and at Porta Nuova station, sells the Torino + Piemonte Card, organises themed guided walks in the centre and coordinates the Venaria Express shuttle to the Reggia. Its walks are mostly in Italian at weekends; check the seasonal calendar for English. It does not sell private agencies’ tours, so it remains a complementary channel.

Are there free walking tours in Turin?

Yes. GuruWalk lists tip-based walks of the centre, usually starting in Piazza Castello, in Italian, English and Spanish. They are a good first orientation, but the expected tip is €10–15* per person and groups can exceed 20 people. For specific themes such as esotericism, the underground or food, paid tours have dedicated guides and access that a free tour does not include.

Are the Egyptian Museum and Royal Museums’ own guides better than external ones?

They are different. The Museo Egizio sells roughly one-hour visits with in-house Egyptologists (a per-group fee of around €70* plus tickets, check the official site); the Musei Reali and the Cinema Museum run similar programmes. Licensed external guides on GetYourGuide typically bundle skip-the-line entry and groups of up to 15 at €68* with 4.8★. Choose the museum’s own guide for depth, the external one for the convenience of a package.

Do Viator, Civitatis and Musement sell the same Turin tours?

Largely yes: operators list the same product on several platforms, so Torino Magica® appears on Viator with hundreds of reviews, Civitatis serves Spanish-speaking travellers and Musement the Italian market. We use GetYourGuide for tours, Tiqets for the Card and some museums, and Headout as a fallback; we mention the others for completeness but do not link them. Always compare cancellation and language, not only the price.
