Somewhere Tours: a review of the agency that invented Torino Magica®

Somewhere Tours & Events is Turin’s most-booked local operator: it created the esoteric Torino Magica® walk in the 1990s and has since added the underground, Torino Noir and food routes. Here we explain what it does well, where its limits show and whether to book on its own site or on GetYourGuide.

Who Somewhere Tours is and why it matters in Turin

Somewhere Tours & Events is a Turin agency founded in the 1990s around one idea: turning the legends of magic Turin, the white-magic triangle with Lyon and Prague and the black-magic one with London and San Francisco, into an evening walk with costumed hosts. The result, Torino Magica®, is a registered trademark and today the most-reviewed tour in the city: 4.6★ from more than 1,600 ratings on GetYourGuide and hundreds of reviews on Viator.

The original format spawned Torino Sotterranea, which descends into the Cittadella tunnels and the air-raid shelters under the centre, Torino Noir on crimes and mysteries from the news archives, Torino Ebraica, food routes and themed evenings. The agency runs its own calendar, bookings and staff: when you buy Torino Magica on GetYourGuide or Tiqets, Somewhere still leads the walk. That is what sets it apart from resellers.

Real strengths and real limits

Strengths. The historical research behind the stories is solid, the routes are well rehearsed and the evening calendar covers almost every weekend of the year, with weekday departures in high season. The staging, with costumed hosts and set-piece stops between Piazza Statuto, Piazza Castello and the Gran Madre, is why the tour works even for people with no interest in esotericism. Departures are punctual and weather cancellations rare, because the walk runs in any conditions.

Limits. On autumn Saturdays and long weekends the group can exceed 25 people: those at the back hear less and struggle to ask questions. The script is fixed and leaves little room for improvisation. Languages are the biggest limitation: English dates are few and other languages practically absent. Finally, the Sotterranea has steep stairs and narrow passages, so it is unsuitable for limited mobility or anyone uncomfortable in enclosed spaces.

Who we recommend it to and how to book

Somewhere is the right choice for a first evening in Turin, for anyone who wants the original format rather than a version of it, and for groups of friends and families with children from age 10. We do not recommend it to anyone seeking a small group, anyone who does not understand Italian, or anyone who wants to dig deeper through questions: in those cases a private guide or one of the alternative night tours with 10–15 participants makes more sense.

  • For one person or a couple: GetYourGuide, free cancellation up to 24 hours and the language visible in the slot.
  • For the Sotterranea: Tiqets, from €39*, with more frequent daytime slots.
  • For groups of 10 or more, private tours or dates outside the calendar: the agency’s own site, which replies in Italian and English.

Always compare the same product on both channels: title, duration and meeting point must match. The operators page sets out the criteria we use to judge Somewhere and the other agencies, and the GetYourGuide page explains vouchers and refunds. Asterisked prices are observed bands, checked regularly; the checkout price prevails.

FAQ

Is Somewhere Tours reliable?

Yes, as far as can be judged from outside: it has operated in Turin for decades, Torino Magica® scores 4.6★ from more than 1,600 reviews on GetYourGuide and hundreds on Viator, and departures run all year round. Recurring criticism concerns group size on the busiest Saturdays and the pace of the narration, not the organisation. We have no commercial relationship with the agency.

How much does Somewhere’s Torino Magica tour cost?

On GetYourGuide it starts at about €35* per person; the operator’s own site is usually aligned, with reductions for children and teenagers. Torino Sotterranea costs from €39* on Tiqets, the other themed walks €25–35*. These are bands observed on partner catalogues and checked regularly: the checkout price prevails. No tour includes admission tickets, because the stops are outdoors or in spaces managed by the agency.

Are Somewhere’s tours in English?

Rarely. The core audience is Italian and the vast majority of Torino Magica® and Sotterranea dates are in Italian; a few English evenings appear in the GetYourGuide calendar, mostly between spring and autumn. If you travel with non-Italian speakers, check the language of the slot before paying or consider an evening walk by another operator with English dates.

Is it better to book on Somewhere’s site or on GetYourGuide?

The price is almost identical. GetYourGuide offers free cancellation up to 24 hours before, payment in your currency and the language shown for each slot: for a solo traveller it is the simplest choice. The agency’s site is useful for large groups, private tours on request and dates not published on the platform. In both cases the meeting point is given on the voucher.

Is Torino Magica suitable for children?

From about age 10, usually yes: there is nothing frightening, but the tour lasts up to three hours, takes place in the evening, requires standing and follows a narration dense with historical references. For younger children the daytime underground tour or a shorter walk works better. Pushchairs are impractical in the Sotterranea.
