The nearest sea to Turin: the Riviera di Ponente, two hours away
The Ligurian stretch between Savona and Finale is Turin's default beach, about two hours down the A6 Turin–Savona motorway and then the A10 towards Ventimiglia. Here we compare the regional train, the combined bus and train tickets to Torre del Mare and Malpasso, and private transfers, with prices checked regularly.
- Bergeggi and Torre del Mare — a small cove under the cliffs, facing the Isola di Bergeggi and its marine protected area. Clear water, little space: the destination of the combined tickets.
- Spotorno — long sand, beach clubs, Spotorno-Noli station a few minutes from the promenade.
- Varigotti and Malpasso — the Saracen village with houses on the sand and, below Capo Noli, the Baia dei Saraceni with Malpasso beach.
- Finale Ligure — station, sand, lively centre: the easiest base without a car.
Turin to Bergeggi and Varigotti by train: stations, changes and times
How do you get to Bergeggi or Varigotti by train from Turin? Neither has a station. The regional train from Torino Porta Nuova reaches Savona in about 2 h; from there the regionals towards Ventimiglia stop at Spotorno-Noli and Finale Ligure Marina in 15–25 minutes. Spotorno-Noli to Torre del Mare is 2–3 km by local bus along the Aurelia coast road or on foot; Finale to Varigotti is about 5 km on the local bus, which also serves Malpasso. Check same-day timetables and connections, as they differ between summer and winter.
Indicative regional fares are €12–20* each way, no reservation. In summer extra direct trains to the coast run at weekends, but they are the most crowded: on a July Sunday the first train from Porta Nuova leaves full. Starting in Milan? See the options from Milan.
The bus and train ticket to Torre del Mare and Malpasso: what it is and what it costs
GetYourGuide lists two unusual products for Turin: Bus & train ticket from/to Torre del Mare and Bus & train ticket from/to Malpasso Beach, from about €25* per person. They are not guided tours but combined transport tickets for a beach day, with a reserved seat on a bus and train combination covering the outbound leg, the last stretch down to the beach and the return to Turin. The value lies in the stretch the train does not cover, the descent to the beach, and in the guaranteed seat.
Check before booking: the exact departure point in Turin (usually a bus stop near Porta Nuova or Porta Susa), whether the return time is fixed or a choice, the actual time on the beach, free cancellation, and whether the paid Malpasso beach club must be booked separately. The checkout price always prevails. For a day that is not about the sea, day trips from Turin start at €50*.
Private transfer, your own car or bus: prices compared
A private transfer Turin → Riviera costs €250–400* per car one way, depending on vehicle (saloon up to 3, minivan up to 7) and destination; waiting time at the beach for a same-day return has to be agreed and usually doubles the figure. It suits families with a pushchair, groups splitting the cost, and anyone who wants several coves in one day. Similar offers sit on our private tours page.
With your own car, count the A6 and A10 tolls, fuel and parking, which in August at Bergeggi and Varigotti is the real problem: few spaces, paid, gone before 10 am. A scheduled coach Turin–Liguria runs a few summer departures; without a car, train plus combined ticket wins. Flying in and heading out the same day? See airport transfers.
Practical tips: summer Sundays, children, what to bring
The swimming season runs from late May to mid-September; June and early September are the best months. July and August Sundays are the day to avoid: full trains, queues at the Savona toll gate and free beaches saturated by 10 am. A weekday with the first train from Porta Nuova and a return before 5 pm is worth more than any ticket.
- With children — Spotorno and Finale have shallow water and sand; Torre del Mare and Malpasso are partly pebbly with a seabed that drops quickly. Book sunbeds at a beach club and bring water shoes.
- Free beaches — few and small: between Bergeggi and Varigotti you can count them on one hand. Arrive early or budget for a beach club (€20–35* for two sunbeds and a parasol).
- Marine reserve — no fishing or free anchoring off Bergeggi; mask and snorkel are fine.
Alternatives to the beach and how we pick the offers
If you want water within two hours, Lake Maggiore with Stresa and the Borromean Islands is an hour and a half away, with tours from €120*. Nice and the French Riviera need at least three hours each way and stay off this page: as a day trip they are not comfortable. On the way back, the sunset on Monviso through the windscreen is reason enough not to leave it late.
For beach transport we look at GetYourGuide first, the only platform with the combined tickets to Torre del Mare and Malpasso and with private transfers; Tiqets and Headout currently have no equivalent products for the Ligurian coast. Prices with an asterisk are indicative bands, checked regularly; the checkout price always applies. We are not the official site of any carrier.

FAQ
What is the nearest beach to Turin?
The closest coast is the Riviera di Ponente in Liguria, between Savona and Finale Ligure, about 130–150 km down the A6 Turin–Savona motorway. The first proper swimming beaches are Bergeggi with the small Torre del Mare cove, Spotorno, Noli and Varigotti. All of them sit around two hours from Turin, so the choice depends less on distance than on how you get there: train, combined bus and train ticket, or car.
How long does it take from Turin to the sea?
By car without traffic, about 1 h 45–2 h to Spotorno or Bergeggi, 2 h 15 to Finale, 2 h 30 to Alassio. By train, Torino Porta Nuova → Savona takes about 2 h, then 15–25 minutes on a regional train to Spotorno-Noli or Finale Ligure Marina. On summer weekends the evening return on the A6 and A10 easily adds an hour: leaving early and heading back before 5 pm is the difference between a good beach day and a day in a queue.
Train or bus from Turin to the beach: which is better?
The train is the simplest do-it-yourself option: Porta Nuova → Savona and a change, regional fares from about €12–20* each way, no reservation. The catch is that Bergeggi and Varigotti have no station, so you need a local bus or a walk at the end. The combined bus and train tickets to Torre del Mare and Malpasso solve exactly that last stretch and come with a guaranteed seat, which matters on summer Sundays when the regional trains to the coast leave full.
What is the Turin to Torre del Mare bus and train ticket?
It is a transport product, not a tour: a combined ticket covering the journey from Turin to the Torre del Mare cove at Bergeggi and back the same day, with a reserved seat on a bus and train combination. It costs from about €25* per person on GetYourGuide. It does not include a parasol, sunbed or guide. Before booking, check the exact departure point in Turin, the return time and the cancellation policy, because they change with the season.
Do I need a car to get from Turin to the beach?
No. Train plus local bus, or a combined ticket, is enough for Spotorno, Noli, Finale, Torre del Mare and Malpasso. A car only pays off in three cases: families with a pushchair and parasol, groups of 4–7 sharing a private transfer at €250–400*, or anyone who wants to hop between coves in one day. Summer parking at Bergeggi is scarce and paid, so even with a car the train can be the more relaxing option.
Which are the best beaches you can reach from Turin in a day?
For the water: Torre del Mare at Bergeggi, facing the island and its marine reserve, and the Baia dei Saraceni with Malpasso beach at Varigotti. For convenience by public transport: Spotorno and Finale Ligure Marina, long sand and a station nearby. For a stroll plus swim: Noli, a medieval village with a free beach. Alassio and Laigueglia are sandier but add half an hour. Free beaches are few and small: in summer arrive by 10 am.
What are summer weekends like, and is it worth it with kids?
From June to September, Sunday is the worst day: trains full from Porta Nuova, queues at the Savona toll gate and free beaches saturated. With children pick a weekday, a beach club with booked sunbeds at Spotorno or Finale (shallow water and sand), the first morning train and a return before 5 pm. The combined ticket with a guaranteed seat saves you two hours standing in a train aisle with small kids.
Can you do Nice or the French Riviera as a day trip from Turin?
You can, but it is not a comfortable day: about 3 h by car each way via the A6 and A10, and over 4 h by train with changes at Savona and Ventimiglia. That leaves five or six hours on the spot including meals. If the sea is the goal, the Ligurian Riviera di Ponente gives the same result in half the time; if Nice itself is the goal, stay overnight. A closer water alternative is Lake Maggiore, an hour and a half away.
